Coldwell Banker Commercial First Equity Story
Coldwell Banker Commercial First Equity has undergone many changes since established on July 1, 1966, by Franklin A. Jeffers, J.D. “Dan” Boston, R.T. “Bob” Sims, and John L. Ketler. Throughout its existence, the company has actively participated in various facets of the Amarillo real estate industry, spanning commercial and residential construction, property management, land development, casualty insurance brokerage, title insurance (predecessor to Chicago Title Co.), and mortgage brokerage services. As time progressed, the company strategically shifted its focus towards its specialized expertise in commercial and residential brokerage services.
Since its inception in 1966, Coldwell Banker Commercial First Equity has ascended to become the premier full service real estate brokerage company in Amarillo. What began with four agents in 1966 has flourished into a robust team of over fifty commercial and residential agents. In its early years, Coldwell Banker Commercial First Equity predominantly operated as a commercial real estate brokerage, playing a pivotal role in shaping Amarillo’s growth through involvement in noteworthy real estate transactions. These transactions include the development of landmarks such as the First Bank Southwest Tower, Westgate Mall, The Ambassador Ho- tel, 1800 Washington, and several Amarillo subdivisions (Lawndale, Oakdale, Westcliff Park, and parts of Sleepy Hollow).
Coldwell Banker team members, integral to the company’s evolution, have actively engaged in projects with the City of Amarillo and various entities. Notable initiatives include bringing the Ben E. Keith distribution warehouse and a Nationwide Insurance Company call center to Amarillo. Additionally, the team represented acquiring parties for strategic acquisitions, such as Happy State Bank’s downtown drive-up facility, Toot ‘N Totum Food Stores’ full block acquisition, and the assembly of one and a half city blocks for development east of the City of Amarillo municipal buildings. In 1978, First Equity, Realtors entered a franchise agreement with Better Homes and Gardens, transitioning to a Coldwell Banker affiliation in April 1982. This affiliation with Coldwell Banker, founded in 1906 as the nation’s oldest national real estate company, has proven mutually beneficial for both Coldwell Banker and the agents and clients of Coldwell Banker Commercial First Equity.
The foundational principles of integrity, ethical conduct, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to clients’ best interests are at the core of Coldwell Banker Commercial First Equity. These values persist as the guiding force shaping their business ethos, underscoring the belief that no fee is worth compromising these principles.
