Amarillo Nonprofits Have New Locations and Stories That Inspire

Our Story: Kind House Ukraine Bakery is a nonprofit that serves orphans and people in the war zones of Ukraine. Using the donations raised through baked goods we delivered coal to people’s homes and provided medicine and groceries. Now that the war has intensified, we do rescue missions that take people from east Ukraine and place them in mid to western Ukraine out of harm’s way. Our donations are now helping to provide equipment and humanitarian aid supplies to the hospitals in Dnipro and Kyiv. We are hoping to build 6 units to house 36 families that have lost their homes.    

TOGETHER: In 2013, we started baking out of a house and now we have more than 65 inspiring volunteers and partners from Amarillo to Europe. The Kind House Community donates 98% of the ingredients used to make our sweet rolls, cakes, and breads that are baked fresh daily. All our baked goods are purchased by donation only, there are no prices as we believe people give from the heart.

Our Story: Storybridge is a grass-roots effort that was born in 2016 when we realized the tremendous gap in book ownership for children in our local community. Age-appropriate books are often rare and even absent in many homes depending on socioeconomic factors. Our model is simple: we collect, purchase, sort, & distribute books to local kids in need. Our programs include Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Kinderbridge, Free Book Fairs, and Little Free Libraries. Over 285,000 books have been placed straight into the hands and homes of local children who need them most. 

TOGETHER: We can and must get books into their homes and into their hands – as many as we can and at the earliest possible opportunity! When we do, we make early literacy accessible, we make school easier from the beginning, and WE CAN CHANGE THE STORY for thousands of our children. 

Ways to Help: We are so grateful for our amazing support team! After the move to the new warehouse is complete, we will re-open for volunteers to come sort and prep books 3 times each month.
